TR — Technical Report

A formal engineering document presenting technical findings, analyses, recommendations or project outcomes.

Definition

A Technical Report (TR) is a structured engineering document that presents technical analyses, investigations, calculations, evaluations, test results or recommendations relating to a specific engineering subject or project activity. Technical Reports provide documented engineering evidence to support decision-making, compliance, asset management and continual improvement.

Why It Matters

Technical Reports document engineering analyses and findings to support informed technical decision-making.

In Practice

Technical Reports may document engineering assessments, inspection results, failure investigations, design studies, testing programs or research activities and typically include conclusions supported by technical evidence.

Common Misuse

A Technical Report documents engineering findings and recommendations, whereas a Technical Specification defines the technical requirements that engineering deliverables must satisfy.
