API RP 580 is an American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice that defines the principles, concepts and requirements for developing, implementing and maintaining Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs. It explains how risk is evaluated by combining the probability and consequence of failure to optimize inspection planning, improve equipment reliability and reduce overall business risk.
API RP 580 provides the governing framework for implementing RBI programs that focus inspection resources on equipment presenting the greatest operational, safety and business risk.
