API RP 581 is an American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice that provides detailed quantitative and semi-quantitative methodologies for calculating the probability and consequence of failure used within Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs. It includes models, data requirements, calculation procedures and risk ranking techniques that support consistent engineering assessment of equipment risk.
API RP 581 enables consistent, repeatable and technically defensible risk calculations that support inspection planning, maintenance optimization and integrity management.
API RP 581 is intended to be used together with API RP 580, which establishes the overall RBI framework and management process.
