Repair Recommendation

An engineering recommendation describing the actions required to restore an asset to an acceptable operating condition.

Definition

A Repair Recommendation is an engineering recommendation that defines the repair actions necessary to restore an asset, component or equipment item to an acceptable condition for continued service. Repair recommendations are typically based on inspection findings, engineering assessments, Fitness-for-Service evaluations or failure investigations and provide the technical basis for maintenance planning and execution.

Why It Matters

Repair Recommendations provide the engineering basis for restoring assets to an acceptable condition for continued operation.

In Practice

Repair Recommendations commonly specify the recommended repair method, technical justification, priority, applicable standards and any operational limitations pending completion of the repair.

Common Misuse

A Repair Recommendation defines the engineering actions required to restore an asset, whereas a Work Order authorizes and manages the execution of those activities.
