A formal record demonstrating that a welding procedure has been qualified through testing.
A Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) is the formal record documenting the welding variables, test results and examinations used to qualify a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). It provides objective evidence that the qualified welding procedure produces welds meeting the required mechanical properties, soundness and applicable code requirements.
Procedure Qualification Records provide documented evidence that welding procedures have been successfully qualified through testing.
PQRs are developed through qualification testing in accordance with applicable welding codes such as ASME Section IX and support the approval and use of Welding Procedure Specifications.
A Procedure Qualification Record documents the successful qualification of a welding procedure, whereas a Welding Procedure Specification defines how production welding is to be performed.
