MTR — Material Test Report

A certified document recording the chemical composition, mechanical properties and inspection results of a material.

Definition

A Material Test Report (MTR) is a document issued by a material manufacturer that certifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment and inspection or test results for a specific material or production batch. It provides objective evidence that the material conforms to the applicable specifications, standards or purchase requirements.

Why It Matters

Material Test Reports provide certified evidence that materials comply with specified technical and quality requirements.

In Practice

Material Test Reports support material traceability, quality assurance and regulatory compliance throughout manufacturing, fabrication, inspection and asset lifecycle management.

Common Misuse

A Material Test Report certifies the properties and compliance of a material, whereas inspection reports document the results of examinations performed on finished components or equipment.
