The section of the ASME BPVC that establishes requirements for the design and construction of pressure vessels.
ASME BPVC Section VIII specifies engineering requirements for the design, materials, fabrication, examination, inspection, testing and certification of pressure vessels operating above specified pressure limits. It provides rules for constructing pressure-retaining equipment used throughout the process, chemical, petroleum and energy industries and is divided into multiple divisions covering different design approaches.
It provides the internationally recognized engineering basis for the safe manufacture and certification of pressure vessels used across a wide range of industrial applications.
ASME BPVC Section VIII governs the construction of new pressure vessels and is commonly used alongside API 510, which governs the inspection and integrity management of vessels after they have entered service.
Section VIII establishes construction requirements for new pressure vessels, while API 510 governs their inspection, repair and continued service once they are placed into operation.
