API RP 572 is an American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice that provides detailed guidance on the inspection of pressure vessels. It covers inspection planning, inspection techniques, damage recognition, inspection locations, documentation and evaluation of common deterioration mechanisms affecting pressure vessels during service.
API RP 572 promotes consistent inspection practices, improves defect identification and supports effective integrity management of pressure vessels.
API RP 572 is intended to support API 510 by providing practical inspection guidance rather than mandatory inspection requirements. It is frequently used together with API RP 571 and API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
