API RP 574 is an American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice that provides practical guidance for inspecting metallic piping systems, piping components and associated equipment used in petroleum and petrochemical facilities. It covers inspection planning, deterioration mechanisms, inspection techniques, typical damage locations and documentation practices.
API RP 574 helps inspectors identify degradation mechanisms, perform consistent inspections and improve the integrity management of process piping systems.
API RP 574 supplements API 570 by providing detailed inspection practices and is commonly used together with API RP 571 and API RP 580/581.
API RP 574 provides practical inspection guidance and should be used alongside API 570, which establishes the formal inspection code requirements.
