Inspection Finding

A documented observation, defect or condition identified during an inspection activity that requires recording, evaluation or follow-up.

Definition

An Inspection Finding is any significant observation recorded during an inspection, including defects, damage, deterioration, non-conformances, anomalies or conditions requiring engineering review, monitoring, repair or further investigation. Findings are documented within inspection records and may generate recommendations, work orders or risk assessments.

Why It Matters

Inspection Findings provide the documented evidence used to evaluate equipment condition and determine appropriate corrective actions.

In Practice

Inspection Findings are typically classified according to severity, significance or risk and are tracked through closure to ensure appropriate corrective actions are completed.

Common Misuse

An Inspection Finding records what was observed during an inspection, whereas an Inspection Recommendation defines the action proposed in response to that finding.
