A controlled engineering document that defines all input and output signals associated with a control or safety system.
An Input/Output (I/O) List is an engineering document that identifies every input and output point within a control system, including signal type, instrument tag, controller assignment, wiring information and operational function. The document serves as the master reference for control system design, configuration, testing and commissioning activities.
The I/O List provides a single authoritative source for configuring control systems and coordinating engineering, construction, commissioning and maintenance activities.
I/O Lists are developed during detailed engineering and are continuously updated throughout construction, testing and commissioning to reflect approved system changes.
An I/O List defines control system signals, whereas an Instrument List identifies physical field instruments regardless of their I/O assignments.
