CML — Condition Monitoring Location

A defined measurement location where equipment condition data is consistently collected over time.

Definition

A Condition Monitoring Location (CML) is a predefined physical location on an asset where measurements are repeatedly collected to monitor degradation or equipment condition. Standardizing measurement locations enables consistent trending of inspection data and supports accurate assessment of deterioration mechanisms such as corrosion, erosion or wear.

Why It Matters

CMLs provide repeatable measurement points that improve data quality, support trend analysis and enable reliable integrity assessments throughout an asset's operational life.

In Practice

CMLs are widely used within mechanical integrity and RBI programs to ensure measurements are collected from consistent locations, enabling accurate wall-loss trending and inspection planning.

Common Misuse

A Condition Monitoring Location defines where measurements are taken. It should not be confused with Thickness Measurement Locations (TMLs), which represent a specific type of CML used for wall-thickness monitoring.
