Systemization

The engineering process of dividing a facility into logical systems and subsystems for construction, commissioning and operational handover.

Definition

Systemization is the structured engineering process of dividing a facility into logical systems and subsystems to support construction, commissioning, testing, startup and operational handover. Systemization establishes the framework for planning completion activities, assigning responsibilities, tracking progress and progressively transferring completed systems to operations.

Why It Matters

Systemization establishes the logical system breakdown required for effective commissioning and facility handover.

In Practice

Systemization is typically performed during detailed engineering and forms the basis for commissioning planning, completion management, system turnover and operational readiness.

Common Misuse

Systemization defines how a facility is divided into manageable commissioning systems, whereas a System Boundary defines the physical limits of each individual system.
