The target value assigned to a control system, instrument or protective function to achieve the desired operating condition.
A Setpoint (SETPT) is the predetermined target value assigned to a control loop, instrument or protective function that defines the desired operating condition or response threshold. Control systems continuously compare measured process values with the setpoint and adjust process variables to maintain the required operating conditions.
Setpoints define the desired operating values used by control and protection systems to regulate industrial processes.
Setpoints are configured within control systems, alarms and protective functions and are selected to achieve safe, reliable and efficient operation while maintaining required operating limits.
A Setpoint defines the target operating value for a control or protection function, whereas a Set Pressure defines the calibrated opening pressure of a pressure-relieving device.
