P&ID — Piping and Instrumentation Diagram

A detailed engineering drawing showing the piping, equipment, instrumentation and control systems of a process facility.

Definition

A Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) is a detailed engineering drawing that illustrates the process equipment, piping, valves, instrumentation, control systems and associated process connections within a facility. P&IDs provide the primary engineering reference for design, operation, maintenance, inspection, process safety and Management of Change activities.
