Definition

Management of Change (MOC) is a formal process for evaluating, reviewing, approving, implementing and documenting proposed changes to equipment, processes, systems, procedures or organizations before they are introduced. It helps identify and control risks, ensuring that changes are implemented safely, effectively and in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Why It Matters

Management of Change ensures that organizational and technical changes are systematically assessed and controlled before implementation.

In Practice

Management of Change is a core element of process safety management and is widely applied to engineering, operational, organizational and procedural changes that could affect safety, reliability, environmental performance or regulatory compliance.

Common Misuse

Management of Change governs the assessment and implementation of operational or technical changes, whereas configuration management controls the accuracy and integrity of approved engineering information.
