MDMT — Minimum Design Metal Temperature

The lowest metal temperature at which equipment is designed to operate safely under its specified design conditions.

Definition

Minimum Design Metal Temperature (MDMT) is the lowest temperature at which a pressure vessel or pressure-retaining component is permitted to operate under its specified design conditions without exceeding the material's allowable toughness limits. MDMT is established during equipment design to reduce the risk of brittle fracture at low operating temperatures.
