MAWP — Maximum Allowable Working Pressure

The maximum internal pressure permitted at the top of a pressure vessel under specified design conditions.

Definition

Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) is the maximum permissible internal pressure for a pressure vessel or pressure-retaining component at a specified design temperature, as determined in accordance with the applicable design code. It represents the pressure limit used for equipment design, fabrication and certification.
