A logical asset structure representing the physical location or functional position of equipment within an enterprise asset management system.
A Functional Location (FLOC) is a structured hierarchical identifier used to represent the physical location, process function or system position where equipment is installed. Widely used in enterprise asset management systems such as SAP PM, Functional Locations organize assets into logical structures that support maintenance planning, work management, cost reporting and asset history independent of individual equipment replacements.
Functional Locations provide a stable asset hierarchy that preserves maintenance history and operational context even when physical equipment is replaced.
A Functional Location may contain one or more equipment records during its lifecycle while maintaining a continuous maintenance history for the installed position or function.
A Functional Location represents where equipment performs its function, whereas an Asset Tag uniquely identifies the individual physical equipment installed at that location.
