FMECA — Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis

An extension of FMEA that incorporates criticality assessment to prioritize failure risks.

Definition

Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) expands Failure Modes and Effects Analysis by evaluating not only the causes and effects of potential failures but also their relative criticality using qualitative or quantitative risk criteria. This enables organizations to prioritize maintenance, inspection and design improvements based on business, safety and operational consequences.
