A controlled document used to formally communicate approved engineering changes.
An Engineering Change Notice (ECN) is a controlled document that records, authorizes and communicates approved engineering modifications affecting equipment, drawings, specifications, materials, software or other controlled information. It provides traceability for the implementation of engineering changes throughout the asset lifecycle.
Engineering Change Notices ensure that approved modifications are communicated consistently, documented correctly and incorporated into all affected engineering information.
An ECN typically identifies the change, technical justification, affected documents and equipment, approval history, implementation status and associated engineering records.
An Engineering Change Notice documents and communicates an approved engineering change, whereas a Change Request is typically used to initiate or propose the change before approval.
