Vendor Data Book

A compiled collection of vendor documentation delivered for a specific equipment item, package or project.

Definition

A Vendor Data Book is a structured collection of engineering documentation supplied by a vendor for a specific equipment item, package or project. It typically includes drawings, calculations, material certificates, inspection reports, operating manuals, maintenance instructions, test records and other documentation required to support installation, operation and lifecycle management.

Why It Matters

Vendor Data Books consolidate vendor documentation required to support the installation, operation and maintenance of supplied equipment.

In Practice

Vendor Data Books are commonly assembled at project completion to support commissioning, operations, maintenance and long-term asset information management.

Common Misuse

A Vendor Data Book contains the completed documentation supplied by a vendor, whereas a Vendor Document Register tracks the preparation, review and delivery status of those documents.
