API RP 576 is an American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice that provides guidance for the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of pressure-relieving devices, including pressure relief valves, safety valves and related overpressure protection equipment. It describes common deterioration mechanisms, inspection procedures, testing requirements and maintenance practices intended to ensure reliable overpressure protection.
API RP 576 supports the safe operation of pressure equipment by promoting consistent inspection and maintenance practices for pressure-relieving devices.
API RP 576 is commonly applied together with API RP 971 for pressure-relieving systems and supports inspection activities associated with PRVs, PSVs and overpressure protection programs.
API RP 576 addresses the inspection and maintenance of pressure-relieving devices in service and should not be confused with standards governing their design or sizing.
