API RP 971 is an American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice that provides guidance for managing pressure-relieving and depressuring systems throughout their lifecycle. It addresses system performance, inspection, maintenance, operational reliability, documentation and management practices to ensure overpressure protection systems continue to function as intended.
API RP 971 supports safe plant operation by improving the integrity, reliability and management of pressure-relieving systems that protect personnel, equipment and the environment.
API RP 971 complements API RP 576, which focuses on individual pressure-relieving devices, by providing guidance at the overall pressure-relieving system level.
API RP 971 addresses complete pressure-relieving and depressuring systems, whereas API RP 576 focuses on the inspection and maintenance of individual pressure-relieving devices.
