NCR — Non-Conformance Record

A VisualAIM platform business object used to record, manage and resolve inspection findings, non-conformances and other conditions requiring engineering evaluation or corrective action.

Definition

Within the VisualAIM platform, a Non-Conformance Record (NCR) is the primary business object used to document, manage and track inspection findings, non-conformances, integrity concerns and other identified conditions requiring engineering evaluation or remediation. An NCR provides the central record linking the identified issue with the affected asset, inspection records, supporting documentation, recommendations, work orders and lifecycle status throughout the remediation process.

Why It Matters

Non-Conformance Records provide the central workflow for managing inspection findings and corrective actions within the VisualAIM platform.

In Practice

Within VisualAIM, the NCR represents the primary engineering record used to manage remediation activities. Equivalent concepts in other organizations or software platforms may include Inspection Finding, Defect Report, Punch Item, Corrective Action Request (CAR) or Maintenance Finding.

Common Misuse

A Non-Conformance Record identifies and manages an engineering issue, whereas a Recommendation records one or more proposed actions intended to resolve that issue.
