NACE — National Association of Corrosion Engineers

The former professional organization dedicated to corrosion control, now part of the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP).

Definition

The National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE International) was a professional organization dedicated to corrosion prevention, materials protection and asset integrity. In 2021, NACE International merged with SSPC to form the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP). The NACE name remains widely referenced in industry standards, certifications and technical publications.

Why It Matters

NACE played a leading role in developing corrosion standards, certifications and best practices that continue to be widely used throughout industry.

In Practice

Many widely adopted standards and certifications continue to use the NACE designation, including NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 and historical NACE inspector certifications, despite the organization's merger into AMPP.

Common Misuse

NACE was the organization responsible for developing many corrosion standards, whereas AMPP is the successor organization responsible for maintaining and expanding that work.
