The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental international standards organization that develops globally recognized standards covering quality management, asset management, information security, environmental management, manufacturing, engineering and numerous other technical and management disciplines. ISO standards provide internationally accepted terminology, management frameworks, technical requirements and best practices that promote consistency, interoperability, safety, quality and continual improvement across industries worldwide. Although ISO develops and publishes standards, it does not regulate organizations or perform certification activities.
ISO standards provide internationally recognized frameworks that enable organizations to improve quality, consistency, interoperability, regulatory compliance and operational performance across global industries.
ISO standards are developed through international technical committees representing participating member countries and are widely adopted as the foundation for national standards, certification schemes and industry best practices.
ISO develops international standards but does not certify organizations. Certification is performed independently by accredited certification bodies that assess conformity with applicable ISO standards.
