A management discipline focused on designing, executing, monitoring and continuously improving business processes.

Definition

It combines process design, workflow management, performance measurement and continuous improvement to ensure business activities are executed consistently, efficiently and in alignment with organizational objectives.

Why It Matters

BPM improves operational efficiency, standardizes workflows, reduces manual effort and enables continuous improvement through process measurement and optimization.

In Practice

BPM platforms often integrate with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), document management and workflow automation systems to coordinate business activities across multiple departments.

Common Misuse

Business Process Management governs how work is performed across an organization and should not be confused with project management or individual software workflow tools.
